First week of Practice

Satisfaction lies in the effort, not in the attainment, full effort is full victory.
-Gandhi

Our first week of practice is behind us! The week was hot and the workouts were fun but also challenging!

We stretched......

Sprinted.....

and encouraged.....

We also celebrated with Gatorade slushies!

On Saturday the kids were really pushed to see what they could do and they rose to the occasion! They tried so hard and gave it everything they had! We are so proud of the effort they gave!

Ben ran so hard he lost a tooth!

We ended the week with a fun game that brought smiles and giggles!

We had orange slices and watermelon and called it a great first week of practice!

The 2011 season has begun!

We gathered at Creasy tonight for the start of the 2011 Goshen Elementary Season. It was wonderful to see friendly, familiar faces mingled with new faces eager to see what this sport is all about!

We started the season with the Turkey Trot.....

As the team ran into the woods together it was a good feeling...Cross Country Season has officially begun!

Please remember to stay hydrated and watch your email in case practice is canceled due to the heat...otherwise we look forward to seeing you on Thursday! Go Gators!

Are you ready?

Get your running shoes ready! See you at our first practice this Tuesday, July 26th at Creasy! Warm up begins at 5:30 sharp! Get ready for a fun season! Go Gators!

If the miles behind me could be put into words before you…
you would feel my efforts, my struggles, my desires,
most of all you would see my joy…
Watch me from afar run the trails and hills
and miles upon miles and you will see…

Parent Meeting Information

Thank you to all the parents who attended the Information meeting!

We are excited to announce our first practice of the season! It will be Tuesday, July 26th. Practice will begin at 5:45 and will end around 7. Please bring your paperwork to turn into Monique. This is the 3 forms that were included as an attachment inthe e mail sent out on May 24th. We are looking forward to seeing you soon!

below are the notes from the parent meeting:
Hello CC Families, I wanted to take a moment and thank the families that attended the informational meeting Wednesday night. There were quite a few families that were on vacation or had conflicts, so I thought I would take a moment to summarize what had been discussed: - Background of our three coaches and their experience. - Discussed the general information that was included in the memo emailed on May 24th. - The importance of parent volunteers throughout the season as well as parent runners during the practices. - Discussed what a typical practice will consist of: warm of lap (1/2 mile), team stretch, break up into ability groups and run distance work, do some speed work, finish with a team stretch and possibly a running game. - Discipline and rules: good sportsmanship is expected always, support of the team as a whole. Steps will be taken by the coach if discipline issues should arise. - Equipment: good running shoes are the most important thing. Comfortable shorts and t-shits. Nothing designer is necessary. Racing spikes are not recommended. - Proper Hydration. Begin now reinforcing the importance of proper hydration. It should be something that occurs daily. You can not drink a big glass of water right before practice. Cramps will occur and your body hasn't had time to properly absorb it. All runners must come to every practice with a water bottle. Per the coach, they will not be able to participate in practice that day without a water bottle. - Nutrition: If you are not already doing so, please practice proper nutrition for your runner/family. Limit sodas, fats and sweets. Reinforce the importance of fruits/vegetables, lean meats, whole grains, nuts etc. Good runners foods are bananas, protein bars, nuts, chocolate milk, peanut butter, watermelon etc. - Meet Schedule - We participate in about 10 -12 meets per season. Plan on every Saturday during September and October to have a meet. There are normally 2 -3 meets that will occur during the week during our season. On average expect to be at a Saturday meet about 4 hours. This will include travel time, walk through time and actual race time. Meets are either in the metro area or out towards Lexington, Bardstown etc. We do not have our meet schedule yet. Sometimes Elementary will be the first races of the day starting around 9:00 am but other times Elementary will run last and this may not be until 12:00 pm or 1:00 pm they vary from week to week. We should have a preliminary meet schedule by mid to late August. - Two week trial period - Please try and participate fully in the two week trial period. This is so important because it will give your child a good feel for what will be expected of them and how the practices/team will really work. It is very important at the end of the two weeks to sit down with your child and ask them if this is what they really want to do. If the answer is "no" please respect and honor their decision. XC is a long and intense season and not the place for reluctant runners. If the answer is "yes", then please embrace and commit to that decision! I am not sure if there are to many other activities/sports that give you such a nice trial period before you have to commit and pay your fee. The above covers what was discussed. I will send out a reminder as our first team practice approaches. I am continually updating the email roster. If you want me to add anything, or you wish to be removed, please just let me know. Don't forget about your physical forms. As always if you have any question, please just ask myself or any of the coaches. Continue to enjoy your summer, the first two weeks have already gone by :( Thanks, Monique Grendi
